Meine Schmuck-Philosophie: Styles, Marken, Pflege | How to care for your jewelry
Auf jeden Fall würde ich mich als Schmuckliebhaberin bezeichnen, gleichzeitig ist meine Schmucksammlung eher klein. Warum? Weil ich darauf achte, welche Pieces ich kaufe, von welchen Marken und sie regelmäßig pflege. Das ist meine “Schmuck-Philosophie”.

Schimmerndes Gold, glitzernde Steine, zartes Geschmeide: Schmuck in allen Formen und Farben setzt Lichtpunkte und funkelnde Akzente in jedem Outfit. Dabei sind die erlesenen Schätzchen mehr als Accessoires wie Hüte oder Taschen, denn oft sind Schmuckstücke mit Erinnerungen verbunden und liegen uns besonders am Herzen. Das gilt nicht nur für symbolträchtige Stücke wie etwa einen Verlobungsring, sondern auch für Pieces, die wir mit der Zeit so ins Herz geschlossen haben, dass wir sie täglich tragen.
Als Schmuck-Fan suche ich langlebige Kleinodien, die mich dauerhaft begleiten. Häufig sind das Investment Pieces mit einem höheren Preisschild. Doch je öfter ich sie trage, desto mehr rechnet sich der Preis: die “Cost per Wear”, die Kosten pro Tragen, sinken. Aus diesem Grund achte ich bei Schmuck auf drei Kriterien: Style, Qualität und Marke sowie Pflege.
Mode ist vergänglich, Stil ist für die Ewigkeit
Der große Modemeister Yves Saint Laurent hatte recht: Zeitlose Designs bewähren sich, dazu greifen wir immer wieder. Was heißt zeitlos? Meistens Stücke mit wenigen Details, die auf schlichte Eleganz setzen. Ich liebe es zwar, Schmucktrends zu folgen, doch stark trendlastige Schmuckstücke kaufe ich lieber bei den gängigen Modeketten, um wenig Geld auszugeben. Grundsätzlich versuche ich so wenig Modeschmuck wie möglich zu kaufen, weil ich es schade finde, schon kurze Zeit später die Trends der letzten Saison links liegen zu lassen. Richtig zu investieren hebe ich mir für Kostbarkeiten auf, von denen ich weiß, dass ich sie auch in zehn Jahren noch tragen werde. Und das kann ich nur empfehlen: So habe ich Lieblingsstücke in hoher Qualität, die zu jedem Outfit passen!
Qualität über Quantität – meine Markenempfehlungen
Dieser Tipp geht in die gleiche Richtung: Weil ich weiß, dass ich die klassischen Schmuckstücke für die nächsten Jahre tragen werden, lohnt es sich, mehr Geld dafür in die Hand zu nehmen. Für mehr Kapital gibt es höhere Qualität, das heißt hochwertig verarbeitete Schätzchen, Edelmetalle statt minderwertiger Legierungen und einzigartige Designs, die du nicht an jeder Ecke findest. Wenn möglich, wähle ich Schmuck aus Gold statt vergoldeten Pieces, denn je nach Verarbeitung löst sich nach einiger Zeit die Goldschicht auf. Eine Ausnahme ist Vermeil-Schmuck, der aus Silber mit einem beständigen Goldüberzug von mindestens 2,5 Mikrometern besteht.
Ich glaube bei Schmucksteinen muss es nicht immer der Real Deal sein – Diamanten und andere Edelsteine haben schließlich ihren Preis. Zirkonia besitzt zum Beispiel einen ähnlichen Glitzereffekt wie echte Brillanten; allerdings sollten die Steine fest gefasst sein, damit sie nicht herausfallen und verloren gehen.
Über die Zeit habe ich einige Marken gefunden, deren Entwürfe ich liebe und bei denen ich hochwertig verarbeitete und klassisch gestaltete Sachen finde.

Hegen und pflegen
Auch qualitativer Schmuck trägt bei regelmäßiger Verwendung Gebrauchsspuren davon. Da Schmuck direkt auf der Haut liegt, kommt er mit Schweiß in Kontakt, Ringe werden beim Händewaschen strapaziert und an Ohrringen sammeln sich Talg und sogar Make-up-Reste. Wenn ich schon investiere, möchte ich meine wertvollen Lieblingsstücke perfekt in Stand halten!
Hagerty ist spezialisiert auf die Pflege kostbarer Gegenstände und hat für unsere Schmuckschätze eine effektive Lösung parat. (Und übrigens auch für Ledertaschen – wie ich die pflege, habe ich hier verraten.) Für meinen Goldschmuck habe ich die Hagerty Gold Care* und für Stücke mit Ziersteinen die Hagerty Fashion Jewelry Care* getestet. Beide Schmuckreiniger sind Schmuckbäder. Dazu kommen siie in einer Dose mit innenliegendem Körbchen daher. Den Preis von unter 15€ pro Produkt finde ich absolut fair, da ich sie nicht aufbrauche und immer wieder benutzen kann.

Schnell & effektiv
Der Spa-Tag für Ketten und Co. ist denkbar einfach: Schmuckbad aufschrauben, Schmuck im Körbchen ins Bad legen, 2 Minuten warten, wieder rausholen, mit einem weichen Tuch abtrocknen und ein bisschen polieren. Et voilà! Die Schmuckstücke erstrahlen in reinem Glanz und sehen beinahe aus wie neu. Zumindest freue ich mich darüber, als ob ich gerade das Schmuckkästchen zum ersten Mal geöffnet und funkelnagelneue Sachen ausgepackt hätte. Besonders praktisch finde ich den Reiniger für Ohrringe, denn bei kleinen Steckern ist es schwierig, mit einem Tuch in alle Ecken zu kommen und sie gründlich zu säubern.
Perfekt abgestimmt
Dominantes Farb- oder besser gesagt Metallthema bei meinem Schmuck ist roségold. Daneben habe ich wenige Stücke in gelbgold oder mit rotgoldenem Überzug. Ob massiv Gold oder vergoldet, ob Rosé, Gelb oder Weiß, das Hagerty Gold-Schmuckbad reinigt alle Schätzchen. Sicherstellen solltest du allerdings vorher, dass es wirklich Gold ist – zu erkennen an der Punze mit der Legierungsangabe (z. B. 750 oder 333).
Die “Fashion Jewelry Care” eignet sich für Schmuckstücke mit Zirkonia-Steinen, Kristall- und Glassteinen und lässt sie wieder funkeln. Und für andere edle Materialien wie etwas Silber oder Edelsteine, bietet Hagerty eigene Reinigungslösungen
Zu kritisieren habe ich bei der Gold-Care den stark chemischen Geruch, aber das ist wahrscheinlich der Preis dafür, dass die Inhaltsstoffe wirken. Außerdem wäre es schön, die Reiniger mitnehmen zu können. Auf Reisen ist es manchmal praktisch, den Schmuck schnell aufzufrischen, gerade wenn ich damit in der Sonne oder am Strand war.
Alles in allem bin ich sehr angetan von den Hagerty-Schmuckpflegeprodukten. Neben Make-up-Pinsel auswaschen und Lederaccessoires pflegen habe ich mir auch Schmuck polieren zur Routine gemacht!

Which jewelry is worth buying and how to care for it effectively
I would absolutely describe myself as a jewelry lover, at the same time, my jewelry collection is rather small. Why? Because I carefully choose the pieces I buy, I have a small selection of brands I get my jewelry from and I regularly maintain it. This is what I like to call my “jewelry philosophy” and I’m sharing it today!

Shimmering gold, glittering stones, delicate jewels: jewelry in all shapes and sizes creates points of light in your look and elevates every outfit with its sparkle. For many of us, exquisite treasures mean more than accessories such as hats or bags, because jewelry often is linked to memories and has emotional value. I’m not only talking about symbolic pieces such as an engagement ring, but also those we’ve grown to love so much that we wear them every day.
As a jewelry fan, I am looking for long-lasting gems that will be loyal companions for a long time to come. Often these are investment pieces and they come with a higher price tag. However, the more I wear them, the more the price pays off as the cost per wear decreases. Therefore when purchasing jewelry, I pay attention to three criteria: style, quality/brand, and maintenance.
Fashions fade, style is eternal
The great couturier Yves Saint Laurent was right: classic designs will stand the test of time and we always resort to them. But what exactly does timeless mean? In my opinion the pieces we’ll wear forever are those with few design details, focusing on simple elegance. I have to admit that I love to follow jewelry trends, but if I do, I prefer to buy from the high street in order to save money. Basically I try to buy as little costume jewelry as possible because I think it's a shame that I wear it only for one or two seasons. So what I do is saving my hard-earned money for real investments, by which I mean pieces that I know I will still wear ten years from now. And I can only recommend this strategy, because that way, I own high-quality pieces that go with every outfit!
Quality over quantity – my jewelry brand recommendations
This tip has a similar approach: because I know that I will be wearing my classic pieces of jewelry for the next years or even decades, they are worth spending more money on. With an investment like this comes higher quality, including first-class workmanship, precious metals instead of inferior alloys, and unique designs that you won't find on every corner. If possible, I choose jewelry made of gold instead of gold-plated pieces, because depending on the manufacturing, the gold layer will dissolve after a while. An exception is vermeil jewelry, which is made of silver with a durable gold coat of at least 2.5 microns.
I don't think it always has to be the real deal with gems – after all, diamonds and other gemstones do have their price. Zirconia for example has a similar glitter effect as real diamonds and is much more affordable. Make sure, however, that the stones are firmly mounted to prevent them from falling out and getting lost.
Over time I have found some brands whose designs I love and that offer high-quality items with gorgeous classic designs.

Do you care about it?
Even high-quality jewelry will show signs of wear and tear with regular use. Since we wear jewelry directly on the skin, it’s inevitable that it will come into contact with sweat or beauty products, rings will be affected when washing and disinfecting our hands, and earrings will collect sebum and maybe foundation residues. However, when I decide to invest in a garment or accessory, I want to keep these precious pieces in perfect condition!
Hagerty specializes in the care of valuables and offers an effective solution to maintain our jewelry treasures. Both jewelry cleaners work as dip baths and I think paying less than €15 per product is absolutely fair because I won’t use it up like any other cleaner but can use it again and again.

Quick and effective
The spa day for your necklaces and other jewelry items is very simple: open the jar, put your jewelry into the little basket inside and lower it into the cleaning liquid, wait 2 minutes, take it out again, dry it with a soft cloth and polish it. Et voilà! After bathing, my jewelry had regained its shimmer and was looking as good as new. I almost felt as if I had just opened a jewelry gift box and unpacked brand new pieces! I especially love using the Hagerty jewelry cleaners for earrings because I find it quite difficult to thoroughly clean small huggies or studs with a cloth only.
Perfectly matched
The dominant color or rather metal theme in my jewelry is rose gold and I own a few yellow gold and red gold plated pieces as well. Whether they’re solid gold or gold-plated and whether they’re rose, yellow or white gold, the Hagerty gold care will clean all your treasures. However, you should make sure that they’re really made of gold or gold-plated beforehand.
The fashion jewelry cleaner is suitable for pieces with zirconia stones, crystal, and glass stones, making them sparkle again. If you’re more of a silver jewelry girl or prefer precious gemstones, Hagerty has you covered as well with their specialized cleaners for these valuables.
What I didn’t enjoy was the strong chemical smell of the gold care, but I assume that's the price you pay for the ingredients being effective. It would also be nice to be able to take the products with you. When traveling, it’s sometimes useful to quickly freshen up my jewelry, particularly when I have been wearing it in the sun or on the beach.
All in all, I'm impressed the Hagerty jewelry care products. In addition to cleaning my make-up brushes and caring for my leather accessories, I've made jewelry polishing a regular thing in my wardrobe maintenance routine!
