Teepartys im Garten, Picknicks auf der Wildblumenwiese, Spaziergänge wie aus einem Monet-Gemälde: Der Cottagecore-Trend entführt uns wie so viele aktuelle Modetendenzen an fantasiereiche, verspielte Orte jenseits von Zeit und modernem Alltagsstress. In einem fließenden Blümchenkleid auf der Wiese zu liegen und von Prince Charming zu träumen, klingt zauberhaft – leider muss ich zwischendurch mal ins Büro oder bin grundsätzlich mehr in der Stadt zu finden. Zwar möchte ich nicht alleine in einer Hütte im Wald leben, aber die Kleider, die ich mir in meinem knarzenden, handbemalten Bauernschrank vorstelle, gefallen mir dennoch und ich finde, Cottagecore und ein moderner, femininer Stil lassen sich wunderschön miteinander verknüpfen.
Cottage… was?
Der Cottagecore-Trend ist ein ultra-femininer, aber dennoch zurückhaltender Style, der ein idealisiertes und romantisiertes Bild des Landlebens zeichnet. Er umfasst vor allem romantische Kleider, die nicht überladen-prinzessinnenhaft, sondern simpel gehalten sind. Die typische Silhouette ist ein A-Linien-Schnitt mit eckigem oder Sweatheart-Ausschnitt, halblangen Puffärmeln, vielleicht Schnür- oder Smokdetails. Ich liebe, wie bequem die Kleider durch natürliche Stoffe wie Baumwolle oder Leinen sind. Kleinteilige Muster, oft Blumen oder andere von der Natur inspirierte Prints, machen sie verspielt und mädchenhaft. Angelehnt an die namensgebende Waldhütte kommen Cottagecore-Pieces in Farben wie mint, salbei, ocker oder zitronen- und limettengelb daher. Accessoires inklusive Schuhen, Hüten, Gürteln und Taschen sind aus sommerlichen Materialien wie Korb, Bast oder Canvas.
So wird der Märchen-Style modern
Schmuck: Statt zarten Kettchen und verspielten Anhängern geben Gliederketten und unregelmäßige Perlen den Ton an.
Formen: zu geschwungenen Linien und voluminösen Ärmeln gesellen sich Ecken und Kanten, zum Beispiel hier in der Tasche. Auch geometrische Accessoires wie zum Beispiel Ohrringe schaffen einen Gegenpol.
Farben: Greife weniger zu erdigen Farben wie grün, gelb, ocker und ähnlichen, sondern wähle eher frische und kühle Töne wie weiß, hellrosa oder zartes Flieder. Diese Nuancen sind immer noch pastellig und feminin.
Schuhe: Klobiges Schuhwerk wie Sneakers oder Dad Sandals kontrastieren mit den sehr mädchenhaften Looks. Du möchtest es trotzdem lieber elegant? Wähle beispielsweise Wedges oder Mules im angesagten Flecht-Style. Beides passt von den Materialien her ideal ins Cottage, verleiht ihm aber eine moderne Note.
Jeans: Der perfekte Stilbruch sind derbe Denim zu süßen Blusen! Geht es unten lässig-sportlich zu, darfst du oben eine Schippe drauf legen und mit Puffärmeln, Schnürungen, Rüschen und Mustern gerne übertreiben!
Metallic: Besonders an Accessoires aus Naturmaterialien wirkt ein Metalldetail frisch und aktuell. Das kann etwa die Schnalle am Gürtel oder die Hardware an der Korbtasche sein.

How to inject Cottagecore vibes into a modern wardrobe

Tea parties in the garden, picnics in the wildflower meadow, promenading with the Duke...the cottagecore trend like so many current fashion trends lets us escape modern world stress by taking us to imaginative, playful places beyond time. Lying on the meadow in a flowing floral dress and dreaming of Prince Charming sounds magical! However, I have to go to the office every now and then and in general I’m more of a city girl, but I still like the clothes that I imagine in my creaky, hand-painted, rustic wardrobe in my retreat in the woods. And in my opinion cottagecore and a modern, feminine style can be interwoven beautifully.
Cottage... what?
The cottagecore trend paints an idealized and romanticized image of rural living. It sports an ultra feminine, yet quite modest style and includes romantic dresses that are not over the top and princess-like, but kept simple. The typical silhouette is an A-line cut with a square, sweat heart, or milkmaid neckline, half-length puff sleeves, and maybe lace or smocking details. I love how comfortable the clothes are as they’re mostly made of natural fabrics like cotton or linen. Small patterns like flowers or other nature-inspired prints make the cottagecore inspired pieces playful and girly. Based on the eponymous cottage, this trend often comes in colors such as mint, sage, ocher or lemon and lime yellow. Accessories including shoes, hats, belts and bags are made of summery materials such as wicker, raffia, or canvas.
How to give the fairy tale style a modern touch
Jewelry: instead of delicate chains and playful pendants, set the tone with chain necklaces and irregular pearls.
Shapes: curved lines and voluminous sleeves are joined by more angular or irregular shapes, for example I’m carrying a square bag here. Geometric accessories, for example a pair of statement earrings, will balance out the soft cottagecore aesthetic.
Colors: Choose less earthy colors such as green, yellow, ocher and the like, but rather go for fresh and cool tones such as white, light pink, or delicate lilac, which are still pastel and feminine.
Shoes: Chunky shoes such as sneakers or dad sandals create an edgy contrast to the very girly cottagecore looks. Do you prefer a more elegant look? You might want to look for wedges, or mules in the trendy braided or quilted style. Both kinds of shoes typically come in natural materials, making them ideal for a modern cottagecore inspired outfit.
Jeans: You’ll master clashing two styles by pairing your favorite pair of wide jeans with a cute cottagecore blouse! With a more casual and sporty vibe on your bottom half, you can really overdo it on the top and wear an ultra feminine piece, for example a blouse featuring puff sleeves, laces, frills, and patterns.
Metal: Metal details always look fresh and up-to-date, especially on accessories made from natural materials. So maybe you want to add something shiny like a belt buckle or choose a basket bag with metal hardware.
